Cianbro repaired and modernized 1,210-linear feet of pile-supported open wharf structures, which were originally constructed in 1943. The scope of work involved the sequenced installation of a king pile-supported precast concrete shutter panel wall and sheet pile bulkhead. The berths are used for submarine maintenance at the facility.
This was a multi-phase project with an aggressive schedule. This required extensive coordination with the working shipyard facility, which had a time-sensitive submarine berthing schedule. All work was performed inside the shipyard's highly congested and secured industrial area, which presented the logistical challenge of coordinating all personnel, material, and equipment movements. Additionally, the majority of the work was performed with barge-mounted equipment due to limited access from the shore.
